Inexpensive Knoxville RV park and campground offers amenities, lakeside campsites, and privacy plus an ideal location near attractions but grows busy during UT home games

Whether you are looking for a place to call home or simply a weekend hookup for your RV during UT game weekends, Southlake Campground and RV Park offers a quiet respite. Though not as luxurious as some of the higher priced RV resorts, Southlake Campground has much to offer its visitors. With 90 full hook-up sites and 27 tent sites, this campground provides free cable, a clean laundry facility, walking trails, waterfront playground and fishing dock. The well-maintained in-ground pool keeps visitors cool in summer.

Southlake Campground Setting

Nestled among tall pines and poplars, Southlake Campground offers dozens of rural lakeside RV sites in the “A” row. You'll want to request this row for gorgeous views and secluded sites. The lakeside playground and tent spots are also located here, so it occassionally becomes noisy. However, during the week and throughout the winter months, this row is practically vacant and may even be considered remote.

Knoxville Campground Privacy

The park rarely grows crowded. Even sites located across the street from the most desirable lakeside sites, which limit guests to a two-week stint, offer serene lake views 80% of the time. The sites are spacious, wooded, and relatively private. Visitors enjoy large “backyards,” where they can spark up campfires or watch squirrels and rabbits play in their natural habitat.

Limited Social Activity

Some may feel that it's often too quiet, especially if you seek social activities within the park. There is no activities clubhouse and although the staff is friendly, little effort is made to promote visitor interaction. If privacy is less important to you than convenience, you can request to be assigned to a spot in the "B" row, the area visitors pass on their way to the lodge. This way, you can quickly access the bath house, laundry facilities, and staff.

Near UT Football and Downtown Knoxville

Since the nearest store is over 2 miles away, you'll need a bike or vehicle to get around outside the campground. Situated on the southern edge of Knoxville, Southlake Campground is six miles from the University of Tennessee and one mile beyond that to downtown Knoxville. Knoxville is an energetic college town, so opportunities abound for entertainment. The revitalized downtown supports many restaurants, including the Downtown Brewery. Neyland Stadium, home to the UT Volunteers, sits on the edge of town. The Tennessee Theater and the more intimate Bijou Theater offer an array of performers. Market Square boasts upscale fusion restaurants and a unique Pub. In the summer, actors perform free plays in the small amphitheater. This family-friendly area promotes pedestrian activity.

Close to Smoky Mountains Activities and Recreation

Southlake Campground is within an hour's drive to The Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinberg, and Pigeon Forge. For visitors who want to escape the lines of hotels and droves of tourists in this overly developed area but remain near attractions such as Dollywood, Knoxville is a wonderful option.

Vacation Value

The cost of monthly rent includes electric for 30 or 50 amp service and is very reasonable. Nightly and weekly rates are about average. The staff can work with you to provide a site that meets your needs, whether it be easy to navigate pull-through sites, lake access, or additional accommodations for tent campers. Don't hesitate to request a specific site to ensure your stay is pleasant. Be aware that RV and campground supplies are very limited in the lodge, and their lending library is outdated and dwindling.

For reservations, you can call (865) 573-1837. If you are a member of Good Sam, AAA, or AARP, be sure to ask for your 10% discount.
